This week, on May 21, 2014, I had the pleasure of speaking to a packed house at the Kentucky Justice Association’s ‘Marketing Your Practice’ CLE. The event organizers asked me to come up with “something different” to talk about. I wanted to prepare an article, paper, or presentation on the utilization of the CRM process within a law firm, so I decided to begin my work toward that goal with this speech.

Word-of-mouth may be the oldest method of promoting your law firm, but it is still the most influential. Social media has updated the tried and true ‘personal recommendation’ technique. Nielsen’s Global New Product Report shows 43% of shoppers have a higher chance of making a purchase when they first hear about it on social media.
Most law firms utilize pay-per-click advertising through Google AdWords to target potential clients but have yet to jump onto social media advertising. While once thought of as “free marketing tools,” Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and LinkedIn have evolved over the last few years into stellar advertising engines.
